The program has been experiencing technical glitches, causing customers to be charged unexpectedly and inappropriately (e.g., before their balance falls below threshold, multiple times per day).

Port Authority riders can manage their ConnectCard accounts online through a new website beginning Thursday.ConnectCard.org will allow customers to load and reload fare products and stored cash

If a rider is overcharged, the authority can automatically restore the amount of the overcharge to a customer's account, another reason the agency recommends that riders register their cards. Or they could go through their records, find Zone 2 charges in Zone 1 and just refund the difference to the cards affected

I have the plastic connect card and just load $50 on it at a time since I usually ride my bike into work. It's free to get at any Giant Eagle customer service desk or the downtown center, and you can call port authority to register the card and protect the balance - so if u ever loose the card they will give u another with the remaining balance.
